Statement from Mearns FM
Mearns FM is aware of recent reports concerning former presenter Kieran Smith.
Mr Smith was a volunteer presenter with Mearns FM for a short period prior to the COVID-19 pandemic and has had no involvement with the station for several years.
While we recognise there has been public interest in recent events, Mearns FM is not connected to, involved in, or responsible for the personal activities, views, or actions of former volunteers once they leave the organisation.
As a community radio station and full time charity, Mearns FM remains committed to serving listeners across the Mearns area with inclusive, responsible, and community-focused broadcasting. The station continues to uphold high standards of conduct for all volunteers and contributors.
Current chairman Michael Smith, echoes former Chairman Gavin Harper’s statement – “We are unbelievably horrified to hear of this news today”, Thankfully, Kieran was only with us as a volunteer DJ for a short period of time before the Covid pandemic”.
Hopefully, the victims of Kieran’s crimes can move on following this and get the help that they need”.
We do not intend to comment further on this matter.
