The Birth of Mearns FM Radio
Do you remember Stonehaven Community Radio? That was a decade ago! It broadcasted on Restricted Service Licenses (RSL). Now that licenses are cheaper and the technology is more user friendly, it is time to get on the air waves again.
The group has been meeting regularly since 2005, After what seemed like a life time of nothing happening, things seem to be happening on all fronts. Ofcom have granted us a license to broadcast from three transmitters in Stonehaven, Laurencekirk and Inverbervie and we are on the look out for funding and studio space.
The town hall is our base for Stonehaven, we are located in the dressing rooms under the stage.
All sorts of ideas are flying around for us to use the old Radio station at Dunnottar, some local councillors have suggested that it would make an ideal home for us, but that is for the future. What do you think? Please let us know.
We are now at the stage where we are installing all the required equipment and transmitters and things are really starting to look good. We should be producing test transmissions in April 2009, and if all goes well, Mearns FM "should be live on the air in early May 2009", so fingers crossed.
Ian hunter, our esteemed convener has been running courses in "audacity programming". If you are interested in this, or getting involved with us in any way, please don't hesitate to contact us, you will be warmly welcomed, and we should all have some fun as well.
The group is a company limited by guarantee, we hold open meetings which anyone can attend, so please come along and have some input in your radio station. We need you to tell us what you what to hear on air.
